Movies

A lot of awesome movies came out in December, and we are here to talk about them!

Starting off with arguably the biggest movie of 2021, of course we have to talk about Spider-Man No Way Home. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in the latest installment in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, along with Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (MJ) , Jacob Batalon (Ned), and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May). This movie is epic in every sense of the word. A theater experience so amazing that hasn’t been seen since Avengers: Endgame. Fun fact: this movie is the first movie to make over $1 billion at the box office since Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker in 2019. We seriously cannot recommend this movie enough, and remember to avoid spoilers!

Our favorite singing animals return in Sing 2. Set a few years after the first film, Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) and his group of talented performers journey to Redshore City (their version of Las Vegas) to put on an amazing space opera. The star studded cast from the first film returns in this exciting animated sequel. This movie has everything, music, drama, and surprise cameos. See Sing 2 in theaters today!

After a year delay due to COVID-19, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021) has finally hit theaters. The story is a take on the classic Romeo and Juliet story set in 1950’s New York. When Tony (Ansel Elgort) spots Maria (Rachel Zegler) at a school dance, it is love at first sight. This romance fuels the fire between two rival gangs – the Jet’s and the Sharks. If Sing 2 and Don’t Look Up were in a battle to see who had a more star studded cast, Don’t Look Up would win for sure. Director Adam McKay returns with his comedic stylings in his newest film, Don’t Look Up. A comet is discovered by Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), and it is up to her and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) to warn the world from this upcoming danger. This film has so many stars such as Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchet, and that’s not even half of the list! This disaster comedy is definitely worth checking out, streaming on Netflix now!

Everyone’s favorite human being, Keanu Reeves, returns as Neo in the latest installment to the Matrix franchise. In The Matrix Resurrections, Mr. Anderson (Neo) tries to find out if his reality is a construct. To truly know himself, Neo will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Watch in theaters or on HBO Max (on streaming service till January 22).

Last but not least, Netflix returns with their latest comedy special Death to 2021. A sequel to Death to 2020, this comedy special pokes fun at the year and all the crazy events that happened in it. With appearances by Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs, How I Met Your Mother), Hugh Grant (Notting Hill), and even Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), this comedy special is a hilarious look back at the crazy year that was 2021.
