Monthly Media Round-up: November 2021

November came and went from us pretty quickly, but some great stuff was released this past month! We hope you all had a great month of streaming because we have some highlights we hope you will enjoy!

Movies

House of Gucci, starring Adam Driver and Lady Gaga, is the story about Patrizia Reggiani (Gaga) who marries into the Gucci family. Her ambition begins to unravel the family legacy which leads to betrayal and eventually murder. Directed by Ridley Scott, this film is an ambitious thriller and sure to be an awards darling. Out in theaters on November 24.

Marvel Studio’s 26th entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Eternals , stars Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) , Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) and many more in this star studded cast of hero’s called the Eternals. After being separated for more than 1000 years, Sersi (Chan) must find all of the now separated Eternals after monsters known as deviants begin to wreak havoc on Earth. Streaming on Disney+ January 12.

Walt Disney Animation Studios 60th film, Encanto, stars Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Mirabel, a member of the magical Madrigal family who live in a magical house in Columbia. Every member of the family has a special power, except Mirabel, who must overcome adversary when the house begins to lose its power. With music composed by Lin Manuel Miranda, this is sure to be a Disney classic. In theaters November 24 and streaming for free on Disney+ Christmas day.

TV Shows

Hawkeye is the latest entry in the Marvel Television Universe. Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton and is joined by newcomer Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen) as Kate Bishop, a young expert archer who finds herself in a dangerous mission with her favorite avenger Hawkeye. Watch as Clint and Kate figure out a mystery that involves Hawkeyes past. Start streaming November 24th on Disney+!

Hailee Steinfeld makes this list twice as she returns for the final season of Dickinson. A comedy about the famous poet Emily Dickinson and how she brings her unique perspective in writing to challenge the societal norms that are placed for her. One of the best shows on Apple Tv+, we cannot recommend it enough! Final season starts streaming November 5th (all episodes will be out by Dec. 24).

The Great is a satirical drama starring Ella Fanning (Maleficent) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men First Class) about the rise of Russian empress, Catherine the Great. This hilarious series is now streaming on Hulu.

Music

Taylor Swift continues her journey on owning her masters as she gives us her re-release of Red (Taylors Version). Red, often noted to be her transition from country to pop, shines bright as a new version of a fan favorite album. According to ‘Business Insider’, “Red (Taylor’s Version)” broke Spotify’s record for the most-streamed album in a day by a female artist on Friday, the day it was released.” (Business Insider). So Taylor Swift’s re-recordings aren’t going anywhere.

Adele is back with her new album “30“, and yes it is just as heartbreaking as we thought. Adele delivers her divorce-album with influences ’60s Motown (“Love Is A Game”) and ’90s alt-rock (“Can I Get It”), according to an article she did with Vogue (Bell, Vogue). Additionally, according to Forbes, Adele was able to overtake Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) on the ITunes chart within hours of its release. (Forbes). Let’s just say, she really brought us sad girl autumn, and we are here for it.

After a 40 year hiatus, a hit broadway musical that spawned two very successful movies, ABBA is back with their newest album “Voyage”. This album attempts to bring back the disco-pop sounds ABBA perfected in their hay-day, and surprisingly they pull it off. If you’re a fan of ABBA (who isn’t?) then you will absolutely love this album!

Good News of the Month

Tis the season to be thankful, and we are thankful for having some good news.

Our good news highlight of the month comes from a Washington Post article titled: “Former grocer (and current crossing guard) has for decades hosted free Thanksgiving feast for 3,000”. This sweet story makes us believe in the goodness of humanity again.
