Finals have arrived, so we thought we’d lend a helping hand and compile a list of tips to help you out. Make sure you know what day and time your finals are!
Your study time is precious and you don’t have any to waste. That means you have to decide what subjects take priority. Take a look at the classes you have finals for and find the day and time they will take place. Also, take into account the subjects you do not understand as much and will need to spend more time on. Doing this will help you decide where to start studying and help with creating a study plan.
2. Creating a Study Plan
By creating a plan before studying you won’t feel as overwhelmed, compared to taking it all in at once if you didn’t have one. After prioritizing your subjects, consider what kind of exam it is going to be (multiple choice, an essay, a combination, etc.) and the method of studying you will do (rereading, studying notes, rewriting notes, flash cards, practice quizzes, practice essays, memorizing, etc.) Also, think about content that will be on the final and if you need to split it up on different days. This information will help you create a concrete study plan!
Some study tips:
- If you decide to listen to lecture recordings, try listening to them when doing mundane tasks like cleaning your room, doing laundry, etc. Pretend it’s a podcast!
- Try switching between topics every 30 minutes to an hour or so.
- Create acronyms, rhymes, phrases etc. to help you remember.
- Learn and retain information better by teaching it to someone else.
- Quiz yourself.
3. Take Care of Yourself
Easy thing to say, right? But, we mean it! When it comes to a task like studying, we become so preoccupied and worried that we forget to take care of ourselves. Make sure to periodically take breaks, eat, drink water, and sleep. It becomes harder to concentrate and stay focused if you are dehydrated, hungry, and exhausted. All that studying would become useless, if you can’t retain any of it due to not taking care of yourself. So, if your body is telling you to take a break, take it!
