Part-Time Shop Assistant, Full-Time Dog Lover

Rebs is one of our veteran shop assistants in Design Works, and their passion for color and creativity is a burst of energy to whatever room they walk into. If you’ve ever stopped into Design Works, you’ve probably been met with their vibrant enthusiasm and positivity! Let us take a moment to introduce you to Rebs Beers!

What drew you to applying at Design Works?

“I applied on a whim on Handshake because I want to work somewhere close to my dorm, as I was a freshman when I started working here. I was looking for a job where I could be creative and problem solve, and Design Works was a perfect fit for that. While I enjoy having most of my school work on the computer, I also love working with my hands, something I get to do a lot of in my position as a Shop Assistant.”

What is your favorite thing about what you do?

“I really love getting to come up with button designs for the Pop Up Shop in the front of the office, but customer service has always been something I’ve enjoyed, so getting to work with customers and other departments on campus is a cool opportunity! Also sometimes people send pictures of their dogs for us to print and that’s pretty great too.”

What are your strengths, in your own words?

“I think my biggest strength is that I’ve evolved in the past few years to become much more of a people person than I was. A few years ago I couldn’t imagine enjoying talking to strangers all day, but I really love customer service and coming up with solutions to sometimes strange print requests!”

What is your favorite project you’ve ever worked on?

“My favorite project I’ve worked on has probably been working at the Design Works booth at orientations all summer! I got to work on buttons to hand out, help redesign our handouts, and let people know about the awesome stuff Design Works has to offer. I love meeting all the freshman coming into UNT, especially the students going into Communication Design and other CVAD Majors since they’re usually as excited as I am to talk about design and printing!”

What staple songs are on your playlist?

“Here’s a few I’ve been listening to on repeat recently:
+ The Coast – PUP, The Dream Is Over
+ Banks – Lincoln, A Constant State of Ohio
+ Be Nice To Me – The Front Bottoms, Rose
+ Bloody Shirt – To Kill A King, My Crooked Saint
+ Share Your Address – Ben Platt, Sing To Me Instead
+ Meet Me in the Woods – Lord Huron, Strange Trails
+ Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise– Dance Gavin Dance, Mothership
+ Anthropocene – Samsa, Anthropocene
+ Vienna – Billy Joel, The Stranger
+ Boat Drinks – Jimmy Buffett,  Volcano”

What is your spirit animal?

“I would like to think my spirit animal would be a dog, but I think a Pangolin is probably a closer match.”

What’s your favorite color?

“Black. It goes with everything and I will suffer all the way through Texas summers and a ridiculous amount of dog hair for my “Wasn’t allowed to be emo in high school” aesthetic.”

What is your brain food?

“Mini Nilla Wafers! …Or Mini Goldfish! Mini Oreos? Anything mini, really.”

What are your goals for the future?

“I’m a sophomore right now but when I graduate I would like to go into the games industry as a concept artist, illustrator, or producer! Also I want more dogs.”
