SAM’S STRENGTHS, ACCORDING TO STRENGTHS QUEST:
SAM’S STRENGTHS, IN HIS OWN WORDS
I think I’m very inventive and I’m kind of an on the fly thinker. I have a good sense of rhythm and melody. There we go.
WHAT IS CURRENTLY ON YOUR PLAYLIST?
Simon & Garfunkel
Buena Vista Social Club
Kings of Convenience
WHAT ARE SOME FILMS YOU HAVE BEEN INTO RECENTLY?
I’m not super huge into movies right now. It’s been hard for me to watch them lately. I watched a documentary about Mr. Rogers. I’ve been watching some Tarkovsky films. I’ve been really appreciating slower movies, movies that take their time. Visuals are really breathtaking sometimes and you just need some time. I watched Stalker by Tarkovsky and that was kind of a transformative movie for me. It showed me that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing with movie making. I’ve just been watching a lot of documentaries and docu-series. It’s harder for me to watch narratives at the moment, I don’t know why.
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL?
I used to say I was like a sloth because I am very slow and methodical and I smile a lot. I think I’m also like a dolphin because I like to jump around and do tricks. A dolphin-sloth.
WHAT IS YOUR BRAIN FOOD?
Well coffee, let’s be real.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
A color I’m feeling right now, in this moment, is probably yellow. I just came back from Cabo, Mexico. It’s a desert-beachy place and it’s making me feel very yellow.
WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?
Hazelnuts, headphones, an OP-1 operator, my laptop
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE NOT IN VIDEOGRAPHY?
Music, touring, being really poor.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I love being able to be in a position where I can influence people who go here and see our stuff on social media. I think my favorite part is more immediately getting to work collaboratively with my coworkers on big projects and seeing that really affect our student base and alumni base. Not just putting out content to promote the union, but actually just having a spirit of encouragement and fun.
GOALS FOR THE FUTURE?
I’m planning to stay around the DFW area and try to build my own business as a freelance, kind of everything type of person. I mostly want to focus on music and producing artists. I’ve found recently that that’s something I really enjoy doing, even if it doesn’t pay a lot. I’ll stay in Denton where the rent is cheap and see where that takes me. My goal is just to do what I love and not starve.
