Denton — It’s that time of the year again, the time when fireworks light up the skies, parades fill the streets and music echoes around the parks in celebration of America’s Independence Day. Wondering where there is to do in Denton for Fourth of July in 2016? Well, look no further. Here’s what the Little d has to offer this Fourth of July:
Liberty Run 5K (1 Mile Walk/5K Run)
Location: North Lakes Rec Center

Time: 6:30am check-in; 7:30am, race begins.
NOTE: The entry fee includes a T-shirt (sizes S-XL; $2 extra for XXL). Race day registration is $20 per person.
Yankee Doodle Parade, Downtown Denton
Location: North Lakes Rec Center

Time: 8:30am judging, 9am, parade begins
2016 Hot Dog Eating Contest
Location: Denton Civic Center

Adult Lucky Horseshoe Tournament
Location: Denton Civic Center

Time: Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the 9:30 a.m. Adult Lucky Horseshoe Tournament
Single players and doubles teams; single elimination tournament. Medals awarded for 1st and 2nd place.
NOTE:
Register by the horseshoe pits located between City Hall and Denton Civic Center.
Drop-off for Kid’s Arts & Crafts Show
Location: Denton Civic Center

Time: 9:30 a.m. to noon
Live music, entry drop-off for the kid’s arts & crafts show, and the Lucky Horseshoe Tournament begins. Arts and Craft entries will be displayed from 11 a.m. to noon in the Civic Center.
FREE Kid’s Carnival
Location: Denton Civic Center

Time: 10 a.m. to noon
The FREE kid’s carnival games begin in the Civic Center and outdoor inflatable fun.
NEW adult hot dog eating contest. Family game schedule TBA.
Pool Time

Time: Noon-6 p.m.
NOTE: Cool off from the hot summer day. Admission to Civic Center Pool is only $1.
Denton Kiwanis Club Fireworks Show
Location: Apogee Stadium at UNT
1251 S Bonnie Brae St, Denton, TX 76207
Time: Gates open at 6:00pm
It’s Denton County’s most spectacular night, and has been for over forty years! Come inside for live music by Raised Right Men, followed by an awesome array of fireworks that light up the sky. The event is FREE (parking in all lots $10), but donations are gladly accepted by our energetic “Bucket Brigade” before, during, and after the show.
NOTE: Please do not bring the following into the stadium: 1) lawn chairs; there is no admittance to the playing field, 2) outside food or beverages, as a variety of concessions are available, (3) animals other than properly credentialed service animals (remember that fireworks are loud and may frighten even these).
