The University of North Texas University Union is hosting the official Topping Off Ceremony for the new Union on Thursday, September 4th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Onstead Promenade. The Topping Off Ceremony is a celebration marking the construction team placing the highest part of steal work on the construction.
Leading up to the day of the celebration students will be able to sign the beams that will be placed in the Union. On Tuesday September 2nd and Wednesday September 3rd the beam will be in the Library Mall for students to sign from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can come, tag the beam, take a photo and use the hashtag #TagTheBeam to share on social media. You will also be able to tag the beam during the celebration. During the event the steel beam will be ceremoniously placed at the highest point of the new Union.
On the day of the actual ceremony there will be free food, a DJ, a live band and remarks from President Smatresk at 12:30 p.m.
This is your Union, so come make your mark on the new building! So in 20 years when you come back to visit the Union, you can tell your kids the story of how you got to sign a legendary beam and made your mark on the Union!
