As everyone knows by now, construction on the new Union is well underway. While the Union itself hasn’t been touched a whole lot, everyone inside the Union has been busy making accommodations for construction to start.
Over the next few weeks and months departments within the Union will be relocating around campus to empty out the Union by mid semester.
Barnes and Noble at UNT has already relocated to their temporary building on Avenue C and Chestnut. The Chat has recently relocated to the campus green across from Sage Hall. It will officially open Monday the 26th.
This week all retail storefronts in the Union relocated to STUB (Stovall Temporary Union Building), which is located on Highland Street across of the Business Leadership Building. These departments include:
- Design Works
- Dance Marathon
- Eagle images
- Eagle Express
- Graduate Student Council
- Greek Life
- Student Government Association
- Union Marketing
- University Program Council
- Wells Fargo
These departments moved early to make sure their services were readily available and up and running for the start of the new semester. The rest of the Union Administration offices as well as Event Planning and Scheduling, the Information Center and Multicultural Center will be moving later in the semester.
On August 29th the fences around the Union will be completed. But there will be entrances to get into the Union. Here is an updated campus map that marks construction zones as well as relocation sites.
And here is a secondary map marking the fence entrances.
*As a quick note the ESSC and the Stub will be closed on Sunday September 8 in order to work on power lines.*
Union representatives will be out and about during the first few days of class if you have any questions. They will also be giving directions if you are having trouble finding things. Make sure to stop by! You might even be able to win a prize!
