For Fall 2011 Freshmen: An Introduction to your University Union

You’ve probably seen the University Union at UNT, been introduced to it through a tour of the University, or maybe you’ve never noticed all that it offers to UNT students. The Union is developing into the true center for campus life with plans for significant large-scale renovations, upgraded amenities, and various services to match the needs of the UNT community and all of its 36,000 students. However, all renovations and upgraded resources/services are virtually nonexistant if students are unaware of them. Therefore, here is a little introduction to the basics of the current University Union. The Syndicate: Located on the first floor of the building (next to the One O’clock Lounge), the Syndicate is a genuine “lounge area” with couches, computers, nine TV’s, billiards, and dart boards. One of the nine televisions is an 8-foot wide screen cable TV set, which is used to play various films that are screened throughout the semester. The Syndicate is also home to Einstein Bros. Bagels Restaurant. This area also hosts many of the UPC sponsored events, concerts, and programs.

Union Gallery: This location hosts some of the most impressive art by fellow UNT students. It is a showcase of the talented artists’ abilities but also a display of the UNT community’s rich appreciation for the visual arts. Located on the third floor.

Information Center: Have a question or concern regarding on or off campus activites and services? The Information Center, on level three of the Union, is able to answer your questions or direct you to more appropriate personnel that can assist you.

Dining: Various dining options are available at the University Union. The Campus Chat, which contains a large cafeteria and sits on the first floor, offers a large selection of dining options by global franchises, such as Taco Bell, and unaffiliated retail dining provided by UNT Dining Services such as grilled burger selections, options for a healthy diet, and more. The Corner (west side of the Union on the second floor) is your grab-and-go destination for a bite to eat between classes. It offers burgers, various snacks, and retail establishments such as Beth Marie’s Ice Cream, Boar’s head Deli, and Green Mountain Coffee Bar.

UPC: The University Program Council is a student-run programming board intending to provide the UNT community with entertainment and events that enrich the college experience. UPC plans and coordinates events and programs throughout each semester. Such events and opportunites include movie screenings, concerts, discounted tickets to off campus events. Stop by suite 216-0 on the second floor and pick up a full calendar of all the events happening throughout the semester.

Bookstore: Purchase your Mean Green clothes and gifts at the Bookstore on level two as well as your course textbooks on the downstairs level. Directly adjacent is the second portion of the Bookstore which offers books and software discounted for UNT students.

Design Works: Come to level two of the University Union if you wish to print banners, brochures, flyers, etc.  Design Works allows students to purchase various forms of print at a great rate!

Eagle Express Mail Center: The Eagle Express Mail Center provides mail and shipping services for students: postages, P.O. boxes, and shipping. Open Monday-Thursdays, 7:30am – 6pm, Fridays, 7:30am – 4pm, Saturdays, 10am – 2pm, and closed on Sundays —- located on level two.

Eagle Image Copy Center: Scanning, printing, copying – The Eagle Image Copy Center offers students the services of copying/scanning, photo printing on appropriate sheets, and resume printing. Prices range from a few cents to a dollar per print. —– located on level two.

Wells Fargo Banking Center: The Union’s full service banking facility sits at the third floor of the building. It is open 8 A.M.-5 P.M. Monday-Friday.
